Quote of the Day.

At the Philosophy 335 Study Review Session:

Derek: Dani, there were no pirates in that thought experiment.

Me: But I remember there being a pirate captain and... and...

Derek: No.

This is the same study session that resulted in chalkboard doodles of vampire!Kant and the use of Cookie Monster in a utilitarianism objection.

Oh, today was so awesome.

House of Flu

For the past couple of days, I've been recovering from the flu from hell, and yesterday was the first time I left my house since Wednesday. I couldn't have gone to class even if I wanted to. Because of the whole swine flu paranoia, they really don't want you to come to school if you're experiencing flu symptoms, even to the extent of being excused from exams. As a result I missed two whole days of school and have to reschedule one mid-term. It was shitty in itself, too. It's been ages since I've had the flu, and I didn't take too well to the fever and aches.

AND NOW MY ENTIRE HOUSE HAS IT. sorry guys :[

Brennen has... something. And Amber definitely caught exactly what I had. Poor thing. ;_; I didn't mean to bring home the pandemic from hell.

I GET TO DO ~*SCIENCE*~

So I finally succeeded in getting a job (of sorts), even though all the work-study positions are full. I randomly ran into a grad student buddy of mine and mentioned I was interested in volunteering for labs and such, and she went and asked the supervisor of her lab about it on my behalf. And apparently they need all the help they can get. I know I'll be nothing more than a glorified gopher, but... but...

~*SCIENCE*~

So I'm going back home today for Thanksgiving. This morning I received some news.

"We are sorry, but one of the ferries is currently TOO ON FIRE TO SAIL, so half the sailings are cancelled. Sorry for the inconvenience."

If I even manage to get home I will be very lucky.

FUCK. MY. LIFE.

BOMBED MY STATS TEST (like a boss)

I even studied for this one. I thought I knew all of the calculations. And I did. BUT APPARENTLY THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Argh. Well at least I know better for the next one. And I should be thankful that there were a bunch of questions I could get the hang of <s>i fucking own the frequency distribution charts</s>. But just... ;_;

I better do well on BioPsych and Personality tomorrow. I'm not anticipating much trouble because thanks to the former's lack of decent notes, I've practically memorized the textbook chapters, and with the latter, I know the prof's tests are pretty easy.

In other news, things have been going splendidly. My roommates? ARE MADE OF AWESOME. It's a weird feeling being able to wander into the kitchen at midnight and end up having an impromptu house-meeting while collectively washing dishes/locating kitchen supplies/discussing Hobbes. I wound up climbing Mt. Tolmie with Amber at 2 in the morning after Rocky Horror on Friday. The view is spectacular. I'm going to have to do it again sometime. The hike isn't nearly as bad as I anticipated, and is kind of refreshing. And Jessie and I are collaborating on our Phil assignments now. I foresee many good times to come.

I've also been applying for research positions all over the place, and I managed to land an interview for one. I think it went well, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow or the day after to see if I got the job.

Random Observations:
-We had to wash part of the fridge in the shower last week because some sort of weirdass gunk was all over it.
-Amber and Jessie have a pet yeast. It dwells in the living room. I am convinced it will achieve sentience.
-Mango is on a diet. He is not adjusting well. Poor kitty~
-I need to buy groceries. I have a package of noodles, and a can of ravioli left. And I just ran out of milk. Damnit.

Remind me to never take the #4 bus again. Ever.

So today, instead of taking the #14 bus to school for my dreadful 8:30 class, I decided to switch it up and try the #4, just to see if it'd make my trip any quicker.

IT DID NOT

The bus came reasonably quickly, but it was completely full. Okay, whatever, I thought. Just wait for the next one, la dee da. The next one is also full... and the next... and the next.

The 5th bus finally wasn't packed full of middle-school kids and Camosun students, so I got on... about 5 minutes before my class started. In my panic I forgot to recheck my schedule and found out when I got to the labyrinthian mess that is Cornett that I did not, in fact, have BioPsych today, but Contemporary Ethics. Great. So I dashed through Cornett and made my way to Clearihue.

NEVER AGAIN

#14, you rock my world.

As far as classes go, things are going well. Contemporary Ethics and Contemporary Moral Problems have proved to cover very different material, so both will be interesting. Stats seems... manageable. The professor is this adorable older lady with a lisp. It's hilarious how she remarked that her sections were the most popular out of all the Stats classes this year. Maybe because, you know, the rest are taught by <s>a douchebag</s> Masson?

I put in my work-study application and it's supposed to be processed by tomorrow, so hopefully I can get a job. If it isn't, I'm going to have to try and beg random profs for a volunteer position. <s> why yes, you can pay me in reference letters 8D</s>.

My new place is awesome. My roommates are all amazing, and Mango the kitty enjoys sleeping under my bed and attempting to eat my comb. Be prepared for massive kitty picspams in the future.

Ask me why I'm awake this early. No, really.

BECAUSE THE CAT HAS TAKEN OVER MY BED.

He was meowing at my door a couple hours ago and since he's been very quiet since I moved in <s> 2 days ago</s>, I thought there might have been something the matter. Instead, he dashed right onto the centre of my bed and has been silently napping ever since.

Yeah, I could move him and sleep more. But he's just so fucking cute. ;~;

Other than that, the move went well and I'm settling in all right. Been hanging out with Kris and Brennen a bunch and that's basically it. Looking forward to getting to know my other roommates, though. They seem very nice and appropriately geeky.

Also, our refrigerator makes strange and unsettling noises during the night.

In which Eevee is a huge pussy.

I've always been pretty good at pain tolerance. I can't remember the last time I've ever felt my eyes water at some kind of physical pain. I usually just swear a lot. But today I went to the dentist's for a small filling of all things, which was apparently enough to do me in.

They froze me, of course, but apparently my jaw is just so damn epic that it resists numbing, and by the time they drilled down to the nerve, there was much pain. ;_; I felt like such a wuss, but I wound up pussying out so much that the dentist decided to put off the other filling I have to get done because I apparently require a stronger anaesthetic to numb me all the way down.

On the upside, I have a tendency to pass out from needles, so I warned the dentist about that, even though I wound up maintaining consciousness. Maybe it's because when I have a needle in my arm/wrist, I insist on watching, and yeah...

Writer's Block: And the Apple Goes To

I have many, but the best would have to be Mr. Bowden, who was my teacher for Grade 3. He was really big on reading and literature. So he made the entire class read and then perform Shakespeare. We also got to make our own little journals and write our own stories and such. He was awesome. And he remembered me (sort of) when I went back and visited before I went off to uni. 8D

Yeah, so anyways, I'm in a hotel in Victoria right now, just got back from the beach.

This has been the only beach occasion this summer in which I've worn a bathing suit. It felt really weird. Not that there was much swimming to be done. The water was freezing. ;_;

It looks like two birds staring out in opposite directions.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uh, in other news. The weekend I tentatively planned out in my last entry turned out nothing like expected. In that, I barely even spent any time at the club (too much pre-drinking), and wound up sleeping on a park bench with nacollections all morning after taking a spontaneous dip in English Bay at 4am with a group of lesbians.
The parade was really the least exciting part of the adventure, all things considered. The colours were pretty, though. :>
Next Semester
Fall:
Psych 300A - STATISTICS
Psych 330 - Personality
Psych 323 - Advanced BioPsych
Phil 335 - Contemporary Moral Philosophy
Phil 232 - Contemporary Moral Problems
By the end of this semester, clearly I will be the expert on contemporary moral problems. And ew. Stats. It's going to have to be my main priority. I didn't work my ass off on that math course all year just to go and fail the damn class.
Spring:
Psych 300B - OH YEAH MORE STATISTICS
Psych 415A - Human Neuropsychology
Phil 460 - Philosophy of Mind
Phil 239 - Philosophy and Feminism
Phil 451 - Philosophy of Knowledge
WHY AM I STILL A PSYCH MAJOR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND.at least i'll try and get that philosophy minor since uh... i practically have it
FINALLY. IT HAS ENDED ;_;
NO MORE MATH HOMEWORK EVER.
NO MORE PUTTING OFF MORE IMPORTANT ESSAYS FOR THIS DAMN COURSE.
NO MORE 22 PAGE REVIEWS.
;_;
yessssssssssss~
I can't believe I'm done. It feels so weird. Now all that's left is to wait for the school to send the transcripts over to UVic so I can actually sign up for the Stats course I need to graduate.
I'm going to be so mad if they take so long that the class is full before I can sign up. So mad.
In other news, my birthday is in 3 days. Probably gonna go to the waterslides if nacollections can make it out <s>or would call me baaaack, Ty</s>
Oh dear god, it's worse than I thought.
So at work today, a little girl comes through with her mom. She couldn't have been more than 8 or 9. She's got this big fat book open in front of her. I always get retardedly excited when I see the youngins' reading these days, so I was all like "wow that is one big book ~*good job*~ ^___^"
She turns over the book.
It is Twilight. She then proceeds to squeal at me about how they're sooooo good and how Edward's soooo amazing and wonderful and how she wants a man JUST. LIKE. HIM.
8 FUCKING YEARS OLD. Well. Uh. At least she's reading. at least that's what I told myself when I went on my break and wept for humanity orz
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In other news~ Jenn is stupid.
There is a BRIDGE now. WTF

So we got this HUGE FUCKING BRIDGE built over the river in my town now so we don't have to take the fucking Albion ferry anymore. It's great. It's wonderful <s>even though the celebration was a clusterfuck of fail</s>, but GUYS. IT IS OKAY.

IT'S JUST A BRIDGE.

Since the day the thing went up, all I've been hearing at work is "omg the bridge is up now have you driven across it what are they going to do with the ferry langley is so close now D8 D8 D8"

Everyone just needs to shut up about it. You'd think it's the biggest thing that's ever happened in Maple Ditch.

oh wait. it totally is :/

Regardless, it's annoying hearing about it over and over at work. Almost as annoying as when people don't put the goddamn dividers between orders and then expect me to read their minds and manage to mentally segregate their order from another.

But that's another rant for another day.

More art and stuff.

The only thing that makes being called in at 7:30am worse is being called in at 7:30 when you have mosquito bites going up and down your arms and legs, and being so. damn. busy. that there is no time to scratch them. orz Why did I think it was a good idea to wear capris outside yesterday?

Other than that, today wasn't so bad. Had a nice sleep when I got back, and I'm now procrastinating on my math homework (in vain).

God, this theme is so overdone. D: I probably have like 9684949 pics saved of a forlorn looking Russia standing in the snow.

but snow is an easy background

And speaking of Hetalia, I changed my AE cosplay effort after noting that my jacket is just too different to be passed off as Prussia very easily, and I'm really not up for modifying it. So instead, I'm going to be Greece. I found my entire costume at this military surplus store downtown. Only problem is that the beret doesn't fit quite right, but I'm sure I can mess with it enough.

Things I still need for it:
-Pair of pants that match the jacket
-Bottle of temporary brown hairdye
-Bootcovers
-Medical tape (to make my chest a bit smaller)

Annnnnnd, just as I suspected, Tyrell makes the best damn Seychelles that I've ever laid eyes on. He's prettier than like, 90% of girls, so it isn't surprising. But damn. >>

I HAVE TOO MANY THINGS

So apparently I walked out of Victoria today with about twice as much shit as I came there with, judging by the amount of luggage I had to haul out and move back in with. I fell asleep in the car, it was so bad. Then, as luck would have it, the moment I stepped in my room, some form of spontaneous compulsion came over me to clean the fuck out of my room before I started unloading my masses of stuff into it, since my space-management was so much worse compared to my apartment in Cluster. So I just basically spent the last 4 hours throwing out shit I don't need. I managed to fill two entire garbage bags full of just... everything. It feels a lot less crowded, though. I like it. I'll be happier when I find somewhere to put the giant mattress that's been taking up space against my wall since last year, but for now, it's pretty good.

My last exam went well, I hope. I studied quite hard, and I'm going to need a good grade to make up for the epic fail that was my Psych class. :/

In other, less stress-filled news, I've been getting into the new anime season, since I've been wanting something good to watch. I'm currently following the new Fullmetal Alchemist, Shangri-La, and Eden of the East. I especially love the third so far. It keeps getting better and better. I can actually stand the female lead, which makes me irrationally happy.

Speaking of irrational happiness, last night was definitely the best "Farewell Victoria" time ever. I decided I might as well go to coffee with everyone, since it was a Friday and all, and the turn-out was amazing, and everyone was in a really great mood. T'was fun. :]

Without doubt, I have discovered the Creepiest Thing in the Universe. It is when you walk outside in the middle of the night into a grassy field of 20 or so bunnies. And they are all on their hind legs, staring ominously in the same direction, into the shadows at some unknown lurking menace which somehow exists below the threshold of your human perception.

...Not going outside again tonight, I think. Fucking bunnies.

Brief Entry of Awesomeness.

Fuck you math homework and your futile attempts at bringing me down because I am on a fucking JOY-STREAK. And I have no idea why. Maybe because since I finished all my looming Social Psych bullshit!assignments I have more time for creative pursuits and have since finished two cheesy fanfics and am finishing up a third as well as working on some art, but... whee~

I like time. That is all.

So I haven't really posted since I got my new computer, due to um... laziness, I suppose. And I've been busy with school, reading after reading. But thankfully, I'm going home for reading break tomorrow before Kei-Kon. Not sure if the art selling is going to work out, but maybe I could take a few commissions. Not sure. The panel is definitely a go, though.

Bad news, I am sick. Do not waaaaant. :/ Even advil doesn't seem to be helping. Maybe I'll get some coffee later and see if that works any. My 10:00 class was cancelled today, so I only have my one at 4:30, which gives me time to, uh... do what I should be doing right now, working on that pic for the con. Better get on that.

Bad mood. So, all other issues that have come in the way between me and my new computer put aside, a new one arises. :/ Last time it was my retarded debit limit. Then it was the website's stupidity, and now they're out of stock and will not be in until the weekend, and Cubert has, once again, died.

It doesn't help that I had one hell of a scary nightmare the night before last. Not going to repeat it here, but it really was one of those "wake up in a cold sweat" deals. I couldn't get back to sleep after, so I went to class on about 2 hours sleep, tops, and just about passed out in Existentialism. I would have went home and slept, but I also had 2 tests that day in both my Psych classes, so a nap was out of the question. :[

But good news, I suppose. That essay I wrote in like 2 hours for Philosophy in Lit, I got an A on, despite getting marks off for handing it in late. This... will be an easy class.
